Tasty Grilled Barbeque at Gyu-Kaku Topanga Canyon
Perfect for sitting around the table with friends and family or business meetings
This is yaki-niku grilled dining in a contemporary Japanese style setting. Guests sit around tables with smokeless grills in the center. That becomes the focus of attention when servers bring everything from steak to seafood to chicken and vegetables to roast on the grill. The guests cook the meal themselves with succulent items cut and seasoned to perfection in the kitchen beforehand. Popular dishes include the Harami Skirt Steak with Miso Marinade (9 oz. $15, Half $8), Chicken Basil ($7) and Shrimp in Garlic Sauce ($12). General Manager Ryuma Nishimitsu takes great care that the staff sees to it that the guests know how to grill the dishes to perfection. Vegetable dishes are also exciting to prepare. Asparagus with Butter ($4), Broccoli ($3) and Mushroom Medley ($5) are sealed in foil so that they steam when they cook and pop open when they are ready. In Southern California, grilled dining like this is reminiscent of the Korean barbeque restaurants around town and Gyu-Kaku has a variety of Korean dishes on the menu as well. Kalbi Boneless Short-Ribs (9 oz. $15, Half $8) are a favorite and where would meals like that be without Kim-Chee ($3) Bibimba (fried rice in a hot stone pot, $8) is also welcome at many tables. The restaurant, which is located inside the Westfield Topanga Shopping Center, stocks many varieties of Sake, Wine, Shochu and Beer. The knowledgeable staff is glad to offer advice regarding which Sake is best paired with which dish. Free parking is available within the shopping center structure.
