THE NEW OTANI HOTEL & GARDEN’S
POPULAR SUMMER BBQ BEER GARDEN
OPENS JUNE 13th, 2007

Summer BBQ Beer Garden in the scenic Japanese “Garden in the Sky.” Much like a private garden with lush plants, meandering paths and placid pool, it is a picturesque setting in which to wait out rush hour traffic with a beverage and barbeque.

“Thanks to the support of everyone, after starting this Beer Garden, this year we have been able to greet its 14th anniversary. As the season for the beer garden approaches, every year we are asked by our guests, ‘When is the Beer Garden going to open this year,” states Mr. Yuhara Akira, Director of Food and Beverage Operations for the hotel.

“Looking back 14 years to the start of the Beer Garden, at that time practically all of the guests were Japanese nationals and related people stationed here. However, little by little the number of local guests of the Beer Garden increased, until now almost all of the guests are local Americans. In particular, five years ago when we introduced yaki-niku barbeque the number of guests increased dramatically. This year on our new menu, for BBQ Items there are Beef Sirloin ($8.50) and New Kobe Beef Sirloin ($12.50). On the Beverage Menu, Blue Chu-Hi, Midori Chu-Hi and Kir Chu-Hi are making their appearance at the price for a 16 oz. mug of $6.50 for each and I think that this is a great deal. In addition, Japanese sake is specially featured, with an assortment of 32 varieties of chilled sake selected from the Genji Bar available for guests’ enjoyment,” continues Mr. Yuhara.

When speaking of beer gardens, live music is an accompaniment and starting now, every week on Thursday, live jazz will be played for the pleasure of the guests. Lastly, Mr. Yuhara says, “This year, too, please drop by the ‘New Otani’s Beer Garden,’ which is a special summer attraction. It is an oasis here that has been created in the middle of Downtown. Please savor our delicious beer and barbeque in the midst of natural greenery everywhere which is usually not associated with Downtown. I truly look forward to greeting everyone.”

The Beer Garden will be open Wednesday, June 13 through Friday, September 14, 2007. Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The menu offers succulent seafood, chicken, beef and vegetables barbequed at table, with prices ranging from $6.50 - $12.50 per plate, excluding tax.
