Beerfest in the Garden
A New Attraction of Summer is Born in Little Tokyo

By Robert Show

On Tuesday, June 10, a new attraction of summer will be born in Little Tokyo. Although the place is downtown, it is amidst verdant greenery, and for a limited time guests who visit here can enjoy draft beer and barbecued foods at a “beer festival” in a garden that is akin to an “oasis appearing out of nowhere.” The place is Kyoto Grand Hotel & Gardens, which has become a new landmark in Little Tokyo.
When I ask the Director of Food & Beverage, Akira Yuhara, about just what on earth this festival is, he says,
"This Beerfest was created in the image of the largest beer festival in the world, "Oktoberfest," which is held every autumn in the famous beer drinking city of Munich, Germany. The beers available at this time are beers of Germany, the Netherlands, America, and Japan. Guests can enjoy fresh beer to the utmost in the space of a Japanese garden where there is a great carefree feeling of relaxation.” What this means is that for people who really love beer, Beerfest is likely to offer an irresistible moment in which to enjoy themselves to the utmost. Additionally, Western snack foods that are exactly perfect for beer - such as Warm German Pretzel with Cheese Sauce, and Helga's Giant 1/3 Pound Kielbasa Polish Beef & Pork Sausage - will also be available. “Folks can gather here and have a drink or two before setting out for Little Tokyo. We want to provide the kind of place where local people, as well as those just getting off from work, can get together in an informal way,” said Yuhara.
The way it will work is: guests will order beer; make their own selections for snacks such as wieners; and the chef will then cook them right then and there on the spot. Moreover, sports such as baseball will be shown on the monitors placed inside the festival area, so it’s safe to bet that things will get pretty exciting for those watching the game as they hoist their glasses of beer. Also, every Friday night guests will be able to listen to a live jazz band in the open air. In addition to beer, there will also be wine and cocktails such as 10 Cane Rum Mojitos, and soft drinks will be served as well.
The foods suitable for beer are moderately priced, and on top of that: there's no cover charge. In addition, guests will pay at the time they place their orders, so that will probably make it easier to come by for a casual visit. “We are also planning some wine tasting events during this period, so by all means please feel free to drop by," said Yuhara at the conclusion of our talk. Well, everyone… how about coming out to experience “Little Tokyo’s New Attraction of Summer” for yourself?
