JRA Prepares “Home-made” Sushi for Keiro Residents

The Japanese Restaurant Association (JRA) held their 8th annual Sushi Luncheon for the residents at Keiro Retirement Home on March 17th. The first president of JRA, Teruo Imaizumi, wanting to do something good for the community, suggested organizing a special lunch for the residents at Keiro Retirement Home. Continuing for 8 years, this lunch is one wonderful highlight that residents look forward to in March. Professional chefs from popular restaurants, on their day off, volunteer their time to Keiro to prepare sushi with true technique.
“We make sushi with honor and put our hearts into making the sushi,” said Seiji Hara, current president of JRA Southern California. Residents filed into the Koichi and Toyo Nerio Dining Room to watch the sushi chefs prepare their lunch in a stream-lined fashion with each chef doing their part in making a delicious feast. The professional chefs sliced the fish and cut the roll with precision and swiftness. When finished, the sushi was then artistically placed on 140 beautifully crafted ceramic plates made by the residents especially for this occasion. As the residents were seated in the dining room, the chefs happily served the residents the sushi they prepared.
“Everything tasted wonderful,” said Yoshiko Okino, a resident of Keiro Retirement Home. “Thank you JRA and Keiro for this occasion.”
