Keiro Volunteers Honored During Annual Luncheon
Keiro Senior HealthCare held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday, May 23. Approximately 250 volunteers attended the luncheon, where they were honored for their dedication for the past six months or more to Keiro Nursing Home, South Bay Keiro Nursing Home, Keiro Intermediate Care Facility, Keiro Adult Day Center (now closed) and Keiro Retirement Home. At the event, activities managers from each facility presented certificates to volunteers who have contributed at least 100 hours of service. Individual volunteers who served as many as 24,000 hours and volunteer groups that served as many as 30 years were honored for their contributions.
“People take the impact the volunteers have on families for granted,” said Shawn Miyake, president and CEO of Keiro Senior HealthCare. “The impact a smile, touch, and offering a cup of tea can make to a family during one of the most difficult times in their lives is incredible.” Appreciating and acknowledging the tremendous value of volunteers was the theme of the luncheon.
Volunteers for Keiro collectively contribute around 70,000 hours of service each year. The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, which is held every year to show gratitude for Keiro volunteers, is an occasion to recognize volunteers for their commendable effort in enhancing the quality of life for seniors in the Nikkei community.
“Volunteers are the best of Keiro and we are grateful,” said Dianne Kujubu Belli, executive director of The Institute for Healthy Aging at Keiro.
