TAIKOPROJECT in Concert |
Fresh off their recent victory in the Tokyo International Taiko Contest, TAIKOPROJECT is set to perform at the Aratani/Japan America Theatre in Little Tokyo on Sunday, April 7 at 8:00 p.m. TAIKOPROJECT was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles and was conceived by Bryan Yamami with the idea of bringing together the best young taiko players in North America to create a theatrical show celebrating American taiko. That show, “TAIKOPROJECT: (re)generation,” blends taiko with storytelling, spoken word, music, hip hop choreography, video multi-media, and dance. Award-winning pianist and innovative composer Keiko Matsui, who deftly combines Asian and Western styles, is set to play at 94.7 the WAVE's Live Jazz Thursdays at Vault 350 in Long Beach on April 26.
Doors will open at 6 pm and the Tokyo native will play one show and two sets - 8pm & 10:30pm. A multi-level nightclub, Vault 350 offers excellent amenities, service, and fine food. Live Jazz Thursday’s is the destination for good fun and great music.

Karaoke has been a popular form of entertainment beginning first in Japan, then the rest of East Asia, since at least the 1980s, and has since spread to other parts of the world. On Sunday night, April 29, Cozy's Blues Bar & Grill in Sherman Oaks will be more like a house party than a blues venue. Karaoke becomes a full evening of great entertainment as raw amateurs share the stage with prodigies, pros and the occasional celebrity. Shows are often standing-room-only. Always fun to watch. Never hokey. Early signup is recommended for singers.

Yoko Awaya Kai will perform a koto concert at El Camino College’s Marsee Auditorium in Torrance on Sunday, May 6. The performance is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm. Rakugo artist Bill Crowley will be the host of the event. The Koto performers of the Yoko Awaya Koto Music Conservatory are under the direction and instruction of Madame Awaya who is a 10th Degree performing artist. Yoko Awaya Kai is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art of Koto and Jiuta Sangen music and to contributing to Japanese cultural awareness. The Conservatory’s members have performed in over 1000 engagements throughout California and the United States. El Camino College is at 16007 Crenshaw Blvd.

JACCC Benefit Performance in Little Tokyo |
A special celebration featuring artists from the “J-Town Beat Series” coming together to share the stage and show their support for JACCC, will take place on at Aratani/Japan America Theatre on Saturday, May 19. The show is set to begin at 7:30 pm. Artists who will perform include: June Kuramoto (of Hiroshima); Daniel Ho with members of Kilauea; Amy Hill ("Tokyo Bound", "Cat in the Hat"); Zendeko Zenshuji (Taiko Ensemble); and Alison De La Cruz (multi-disciplinary artist). Proceeds will support JACCC community programs. There will be a post performance reception following the concert on the JACCC Plaza. Special VIP Seating $100, $50 Orchestra, $45 Balcony.
