Sushi and Sake New TrendSeven short and full length films of young Japanese motion picture directors just starting to take off in Hollywood will be shown non-stop this year, too! JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), in order to support the success of works of young Japanese motion picture directors in the North American market, is sponsoring “The 3rd Show Biz Japan! Sneak Peek ~Film Screenings from Next-Generation Japanese Filmmakers~ ” as a movie screening venue for short as well as full length motion pictures of Japanese motion picture directors.

Today, in the North American film world there is great interest in things such as remakes of a wide range of Japanese movie genres, original works based on Japanese cultural and historical themes and other Japanese content. And joint Japanese-American productions, increased activity of Japanese crews involved in productions and prominent performances by Japanese actors on screen give one a feeling of expectation regarding that array of motion picture production elements.

Within that environment, seeking regular business opportunities are young Japanese filmmakers who continue to be involved in independent productions and in order to support their efforts, the plan for “Show Biz Japan! Sneak Peek” emerged. Spanning two events held in the past, works of highly individualist film directors are given showings to create the potential for the works to be admitted to foreign film festivals and to reach distribution companies.
In anticipation of the third event, for the screenings this time, a total of 31 works of full length and short features were solicited as candidates and as the result of careful consideration, seven works were settled upon to be shown. This is a unique chance to see works of the next generation of Japanese film directors active in North America. How about availing yourself of that opportunity to appreciate these films?

Sapporo U.S.A. Inc., Introduce
YEBISU from Japan
Sapporo U.S.A. announced today introduction to the US market of a most popular high-end Japanese beer starting January 2008. This now beer, YEBISU, is brewed in Japan from 100% fine malt and selected hops with Sapporo’s traditional art. Sapporo U.S.A. will test this now beer in selected US markets, New York, California and Hawaii.
The introduction of YEBISU to the US market has been thirsted for years since Sapporo U.S.A. stopped importing YEBISU from Japan in 2002. This introduction will catch the growing share of the high-end segment of the US market.
Mickey Masawaki, President of Sapporo U.S.A., commented: “Actually, we have been receiving a lot of request for YEBISU from our customers, Japanese consumers living in the US but also American consumers. I believe this high-end beer, YEBISU will increase Sapporo’s presence in the US beer market.”
